Designer Spotlight: Louise Campbell

Louise CampbellWith pieces like the Collage Pendant and the Campbell Pendant Lamp, it’s easy to see why designer Louise Campbell has emerged as one of the bright stars of modern Danish design.

Born in 1970 in Copenhagen to a Danish father and an English mother, Campbell grew up embracing both cultures, attending the London College of Furniture and Denmark’s Design School. Since 1996 she has worked independently from her own studio, creating award-winning pieces for clients such as Louis Poulsen, Royal Copenhagen, and Stelton.

As her website mentions:

The combination of Scandinavian rationalism and femininity, and perhaps her dual nationality, give the works of Louise Campbell an unusual edge. Illustrating contrasts seem to be an issue that keeps returning in her work.

Every design piece that Campbell creates follows three simple rules: always start from scratch; find the core of the issue; dare to be different. This focus has paid off: Campbell has won numerous awards, including the IF Product Design Award in gold for the Campbell Pendant in 2005, and the Bruno Mathsson Award in 2007.
