Leather Care from Fritz Hansen

Caring for your leather furniture

If you’ve purchased a leather Jacobsen Egg Chair, PK22 or leather Swan Chair, you want your investment to last.

The Republic of Fritz Hansen came up with some simple steps to make sure your leather chair or sofa will live a long (and comfortable) life. While these tips were created by Fritz Hansen, they apply to any high quality leather such as the Mogensen Hunting Chair or the leather Wegner Wing Chair.

Leather Care Tips:

  • Do not place next to strong heat sources such as radiators or fireplaces
  • Try to maintain a consistent level of humidity; avoid extremes
  • Keep out of direct sunlight
  • Do not apply chemicals, sulphonated washing and cleaning detergents or leather polish/oil

Cleaning All Leather Except Suede:

  • Wipe frequently with a clean, dry, cloth
  • Vacuum regularly with a soft brush attachment
  • For spills/stains, avoid scrubbing with abrasives as it will damage the leather; try to dab as quickly as possible
  • To treat stains or deeply clean the leather:
  1. In a large bowl, combine 1L or 1qt of distilled water with 3 large spoonfuls of natural soap flakes
  2. Whip until it foams
  3. Gently apply only the foam to leather in a circular motion – do not let soap soak
  4. Quickly wipe off and buff with a clean, dry cloth

I had purchased a leather Sofa Bed one year ago. The sofa is all good and of the best quality, but I got some stains on it while using. I am unable to remove the stains even after several washes. I had even tried the above tips and they are not much effective.
