This year Verpan pays tribute to what would have been Verner Panton’s 90th year with updated interpretations of a few of the Danish designer’s most famous works. Thanks to the help of his widow, Marianne Panton, Verpan has embarked on a “Fresh Start”—celebrating Panton’s long career with new metals, finishes and fabrics.
Beauty in Brass
The Verpan 90th Anniversary collection starts off with the VP Globe and Fun 10DM Pendant with updated brass hardware. When first introduced, Panton lighting caused a sensation in the design world, not only because of the way the light radiated, but also because of the materials he used. The new brass finish lends the VP Globe and Fun Pendants a warm glow and a completely fresh approach.
Symphony of Blue
Blue was one of Panton’s favorite colors—he loved using blue in his interiors and as upholstery for his furniture. As a tribute, Verpan has painted his multi-functional Barboy in a dusty shade, whose grey sheen adds a modern, elegant touch to the piece. We especially love the way the muted blue compliments the chrome wheels/castors.
Series 430 Additions
The Barboy isn’t the only Panton icon that’s enjoying a new shade of color. The Panton Series 430 Chair, which Verpan released earlier this year, has been unveiled in two new fabrics from Belgian trend-setter Raf Simons. The 430 Chair is upholstered in Simon’s exquisite Noise and Pilot fabrics, which compliment the understated pieces with their scattered sand, gold and black threads. Verpan has also introduced the sleek Series 430 Table to complete the collection. Since its unveiling at the Salone del Mobile Milan, the Series 430 has quickly become one of Verpan’s most popular.
All in all, we think Verpan has successfully reimagined Panton’s design sensibilities in a way the he would have loved. Happy 90th, Verner!
